We have stayed in many family resorts over the years, but very few could compare to Hard Rock Hotel Bali. The place is absolutely fantastic, and our stay was nothing short of amazing!

You definitely don’t need to have kids to stay at Hard Rock Hotel, in fact during our stay we met many people very happily staying there without kids, but for anyone with kids – this place has everything!

Location

Hard Rock Hotel Bali is located in Kuta, right in the heart of Bali. Sitting directly across the street from the buzzing Kuta Beach, the hotel lies amidst the electric atmosphere of Bali’s vibrant shopping and entertainment precinct.

Accommodation

The Hard Rock Hotel Bali has 418 rooms and suites. From a deluxe, to the presidential suite,  there are many different room configurations to choose from, all boasting a trendy rock’n’roll theme and a multitude of additional features including air-conditioning, free wi-fi, satellite tv and on-demand movies.

Our Room

We stayed in the Roxity Family Suite and it was brilliant! Our suite included a master bedroom with King Size bed and ensuite with a bath, a living room which included 2 day beds, and best of all – a kids room. The kids room was amazing, our kids couldn’t believe their eyes when they walked in! Like no other hotel room we have ever seen, it had bunk beds, soft toys, books to read, funky lights and a tv and Playstation 3. There was even a kids bathroom next door to their room, complete with children’s toothbrushes and toothpaste, goggles for swimming and kid size bath robes and slippers.

Facilities

Where do I begin? You could easily stay at the Hard Rock Hotel for a week and not even leave the grounds. And if you have kids, well, even with the beach calling from across the road, they’ll be having way too much fun to care!

Roxity Kids Club

Many large hotels offer kids clubs these days, but Hard Rock Hotel’s Roxity Kids Club has got to be one of the best!

During our stay the main Roxity Kids Club room was closed as it was undergoing a big upgrade, and instead they were using the TABU Teens Club as the main base for the kids club activities. Our kids were more than happy to be here as this area comes complete with a gaming room and private theatre room. I can only imagine how much fun teens would have hanging out here – there is also a bar and lounge with pool table and if that’s not enough, a nightclub with a DJ booth!

With activities and entertainment happening continuously throughout the day, our kids had an absolute ball in the Roxity Kids Club. In fact, they had so much fun, that when I came to collect them for a swim, one chose to skip the pool fun (and just wait til I tell you about the pools!) and continue playing in the games room and chatting with the girls running the kids club. The staff are all just wonderful and genuinely befriended our children, getting to know them and playing with them one on one.

Throughout their time at the club our kids watched movies, made donuts, played foosball, made bracelets, played computer games including ‘just dance’ and their absolute favourite activity – took part in the kids Olympics on the sand island at the main pool. The Olympics were fantastic with so many fun and entertaining games. After wins in the popcorn eating challenge and the dance competition, two of our kids took out the overall silver and gold medals which they were presented with in true Olympic style!

The Roxity Kids Club is for children age 4-12 years and operates daily from 9am to 6pm. Membership includes lunch, drinks, gift pack and more.

Dining

There are six different restaurants and cafes at the Hard Rock Hotel, each with it’s own unique flair and ambiance. We only tried two, but both were fantastic and offered some of the best food we had during our entire trip.

Starz Diner

Offering both indoor and outdoor seating for up to 330 people, Starz Diner is a buffet restaurant boasting a wide and high quality variety of traditional Indonesian dishes as well as some more familiar western foods.

img_0750

We visited Starz Diner for both dinner and breakfast. On the night we dined the restaurant was offering an Indonesian buffet banquet overflowing with every manner of Indonesian dishes and delicacies including their renowned suckling pig. I did find the food somewhat spicy (that’s not saying much though, I struggle with anything even slightly above ‘mild’), but the quality was impeccable. And it wasn’t just the food and the vast variety we had to choose from that wowed us, but the service was of an equally high quality. Even with our five fidgety, tired kids, we felt relaxed and looked after from the moment we sat down. One piece of advice when dining here – save room for dessert. Or don’t, but don’t let that stop you! We ate waaaay too much but still managed to fit in many sweet, delicious cakes, pastries and treats that simply looked (and tasted) too good to pass up!

img_0762

The buffet breakfast at Starz Diner had possibly the biggest variety of breakfast foods I have ever seen. You name it, it was there! And as with dinner, all of the food was of such a high quality. I would honestly stay here again just for the breakfast buffet alone!

Splash Bistro

While the older kids were treated to lunch at Starz Diner with the kids club, we took our youngest two for lunch at the poolside Splash Bistro. Still full from our overindulgent breakfast, we reluctantly passed on the tempting wood-fired pizzas on offer and just ordered a couple of kids meals for the little ones. Much to the kids disapproval, I couldn’t help but ‘share’ their generous meals once they came out and I can honestly say they were possibly the yummiest kids meals I’ve ever tasted. Our kids will always choose spaghetti bolognaise if it’s on offer and this one was as good as, if not better than, my own (and that’s saying something!)!

Centerstage

In the heart of the hotel you will find the Centerstage. This spacious bar is a live rock venue with bands performing nightly on a raised stage above the bar. The atmosphere is electric, the performers talented and captivating and the sound quality is incredible, it really feels like you’re at a rock concert! Our kids had an absolute ball here, rocking out to a brilliant band playing hit after hit. Even little Ben got on the dance-floor and busted some moves!

Pools

There are two pools at Bali’s Hard Rock Hotel.

The Chill Out Pool is a tranquil and luxurious pool located outside the ground floor balcony. Much quieter than the main pool, this is a brilliant spot to unwind and relax on a balmy Bali evening.

img_0838

It is the main pool however, the largest free-form swimming pool in Bali, where we opted to spend the majority of our time. At one end you will find several manned waterslides which our kids spent the longest time playing on. And when they weren’t racing each other down the waterslides they were splashing around in the fantastic kids water playground at the other end of the pool area.

There are 22 poolside cabanas available to hire, housing tables, chairs and day-beds. A very welcome retreat from the sun! Each come with a picnic basket full of goodies to enjoy, including chips, chocolates, cookies and cold water. You can also have food and drinks delivered straight to your cabana from the nearby Splash Bistro. Our cabana was in a fantastic position, right next to the kids playground and overlooking the unique sand island which is regularly used as a volleyball court, the location for the kids club Olympics and also a stage for outdoor performances.

Body Rock Fitness Centre

Open from 7am to 9pm, and available to all guests, the Body Rock Fitness Centre includes a fully equipped gym, sauna, steam room and hot and cold plunge pools. Peter was lucky enough to sneak off for a session, while I was left with the arduous task of lounging by the pool with a cocktail, and he gave it two thumbs up!

 Unique Extras

Memorabilia

Dotted throughout the hotel are over 500 pieces of unique rockstar memorabilia. From signed guitars to memorable outfits, you will be sure to find some recognised and revered names of true rock and roll legends!

Rock Spa

I’m still kicking myself that I didn’t get around to making use of this spa! With an extensive menu of relaxing and sensual treatments, the Rock Spa is the place to go for an indulgent, rock star pampering!

‘Picks’ Guitar Hire

Possibly the most unique of all the services offered by the Hard Rock Hotel, the Picks Fender Guitar room service program offers guests the chance to have a genuine fender guitar, complete with amplifier and headphones, delivered to their room to usefor free during their stay. Now that really is true rock star treatment!
