It’s no secret that there is loads of budget accommodation available in Bali. In fact, finding a cheap place to stay is definitely not a challenge at all when it comes to the Island of the Gods. The challenge lies in finding somewhere cheap and clean and comfortable!
Well, we have found that place! Two of them actually!
Grandmas Hotel Legian and Grandmas Hotel Seminyak!
We spent two nights in each of these hotels and were extremely satisfied and impressed with both.
Grandma’s Hotel Legian is conveniently located at the main junction of Jalan Sriwijaya and the Jalan Raya, right in the heart of Legian. Surrounded by restaurants and shops and only a short walk to the beach, simply stepping out of the front door, your only issue will be deciding where to go first.
Grandma’s Hotel Seminyak is located on Jalan Camplung Tanduk, one of Seminyaks most popular streets, and is only minutes from the highly popular Seminyak Beach. In a slightly quieter area than Grandma’s Legian (by Bali standards that is), you still only need walk out the front door and take a very short stroll to find a plethora of places to dine and shop.
Being a budget hotel, the rooms are simple and fairly small, but definitely not to the point where you’ll feel claustrophobic. In fact, they have been cleverly laid out to maximize space and offer all of the basics required for a comfortable stay, including desk, wardrobe, tv, fridge and ensuite. The generous use of white throughout creates an air of openness making it feel more spacious than it otherwise may. Crisp bursts of colour, and unique murals on the walls, add a splash of energy to every room. What impressed us the most was just how impeccably clean and well kept every room was. Housekeeping definitely know what they are doing!
Each hotel offers either double or twin rooms, with Grandmas Legian also boasting some triple rooms. Being such a large family, we required two rooms, however this was not a problem at all, as with most budget accommodation we use, we were only really after somewhere comfortable to sleep, wash and store our belongings.
Grandmas Hotel Legian
There is a lovely little dining area beside the lobby, where breakfast is served daily. It is a very relaxed and tranquil setting with an open roof and gorgeous green vines dangling down. There are many options on the menu, including a traditional Indonesian breakfast and an American breakfast, as well as pastries, fresh fruit and tea, coffee and juice.
Joined to Grandma’s Hotel Legian is Italian restaurant Bella Italia. Offering an extensive menu of traditional Italian pizza and pasta dishes, the food is top quality with very generous sized servings. A little on the expensive side, by Bali standards, but worth it for the quality of food, the service and the atmosphere. It can be a bit noisy as it is right on the main road, but we really enjoyed being able to sit back and take in the crazy hustle and bustle of this amazing part of the world. We all shared several pizzas and pasta dishes for lunch and all agreed that it was better than some that we had eaten in Italy!
Grandmas Hotel Seminyak
MIURA-Pintxos Bar & Grill
Adjacent to the hotel lobby is MIURA-Pintxos Bar & Grill. Essentially a Spanish restaurant, MIURA-Pintxos Bar & Grill offers an exotic fusion of Spanish, European and Asian cuisines. Come for a meal, a snack or even just a cocktail, with live music each night, the atmosphere is electric and the food top quality.
Breakfast is served daily with several options including traditional Indonesian breakfast, American breakfast and banana pancakes, as well as pastries, fresh fruit and tea, coffee and juice.
Room service is also available from MIURA-Pintxos Bar & Grill. After a long day out, it was wonderful to be able to put the kids to bed and sit and have some tasty, hot food and a cold Bintang, without leaving our room!
Spa and Massage
Grandmas Hotel Legian
Rehat Massage & Reflexology offers a full range of massage and beauty treatments at exceptional prices. An immaculately clean, relaxing and tranquil environment, the facilities and service is truly top notch. From the tea and face towel upon arrival, the foot scrub before the massage and the tea and watermelon afterwards, so much care is taken to ensure a relaxing, rejuvenating and memorable experience.
*I had many massages while in Bali and I can honestly say that the one that I had here was the best! I can only imagine that all of the staff are equally as talented and attentive, but if you can, I highly recommend requesting Buda for your massage. I know I will be the next time we visit!
Grandmas Hotel Seminyak
De Nyuh Spa Seminyak offers an extensive range of massage and beauty treatments, also at exceptional prices. Luxurious and professional, the facilities are of a very high quality. All of the staff are lovely and very accommodating and the setting is wonderfully clean, relaxing and tranquil. I had 2 massages here and loved both of them. The oil they used smelled incredible and I was so excited to discover that they sold it, along with many other products at a fantastic price, that I ended up buying 4 bottles!
While unfortunately there is no swimming pool at Grandmas Legian, there is one at Grandmas Seminyak. Adjacent to MIURA-Pintxos Bar & Grill, this modest pool is the perfect place for a dip after a long hot day, followed by a refreshing poolside cocktail.
I cannot fault the service at either establishment. The staff were all warm and friendly and happy to help with any request or query we had. They organised transport, helped with directions and absolutely doted over our children.
Each day our rooms were cleaned immaculately and at Grandmas Legian the cleaner even left us a note wishing us a wonderful day.
We were so impressed with our stays at both Grandmas Legian and Grandmas Seminyak, especially the low rates, that we will definitely stay again. In fact, we already have! On our very last day in Bali, after our daughter had broken her arm and we were dealing with hospitals and waiting for our insurance company to organise flights back to Australia, we chose to stay once again at Grandmas Seminyak. With their incredibly low rates and great location, this was an obvious and easy choice, and a great way to end our visit to Bali!
